IMPORTANT UPDATE: CHANGES TO ART REVIEW PROCESS COMMENCED FROM 18 MAY 2026

The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) has officially introduced new changes to the review process for certain temporary visa decisions from 18 May 2026.

One of the major updates is the introduction of an “on the papers” review process, meaning some migration review cases may now be decided based on written submissions and supporting documents without requiring a hearing in every case.

 Key changes include:

ART registrars and staff now have authority to handle certain administrative functions in these paper-based reviews

Applicants may be invited to provide additional written submissions or supporting evidence

Applications may be dismissed if applicants fail to respond to ART requests

ART members will remain responsible for making final decisions

The new process aims to improve efficiency and streamline temporary visa review matters

Another update to note: Application fees for certain NDIS regulatory review matters will commence from 1 July 2026.

These changes may impact how future ART migration review applications are prepared and assessed, making strong documentation and timely responses even more important.
